DOUGLAS, GA (WALB) - South Georgia State College in Douglas will be safer this coming school year, with new protections from gas exposures.

The City of Douglas Natural Gas Department replaced the old galvanized piping gas system at South Georgia State.

They replaced the old pipes with new polyurethane pipes.

Officials said the new piping system is a safeguard against gas leak exposure.

Natural gas powers the campus' boilers, dormitory hot water heaters, and cafeteria appliances.

The Douglas Gas Department said they worked long hours this summer to make sure the system was ready before South Georgia State reopens.
